Website label

A means of certifying a website’s accessibility.

The “e-accessibility website” label shows web surfers that a website complies with accessibility standards and enables organisations to promote their civic commitment to the general public.

The “e-accessibility website” excludes the PDF publications publications present on a website. The accessibility of PDF publications is certified by the “e-accessibility publication” label.

Procedure for certifying a website’s e-accessibility

Any organisation which believes that its website complies, at the very least, with one of the three levels of accessibility (Simple-A, Double-A or Triple-A) in the WCAG 2.0′s international accessibility guidelines, is free to use the “e-accessibility website” label on the said website, subject to compliance with the Label’s charter of use.

A website which complies with RGAA criteria (which are the accessibility repository for French administrations) is also eligible for the “e-accessibility website” label: see correspondence with RGAA criteria.

The “e-accessibility website” label may only be issued by experts certified by the e-accessibility association. These experts are committed to providing the skills needed by the website’s editor to produce a website which conforms to accessibility standards.

Correspondence with RGAA standards

RGAA criteria are a method for applying WCAG 2.0 international guidelines.

By deduction, a website conform to one of the three levels of RGAA criteria is, first and foremost, conform to the levels corresponding to WCAG 2.0 guidelines.

Equivalence of RGAA criteria compared to WCAG 2.0
WCAG 2.0 levels RGAA levels
A (Simple-A) A (Simple-A)
AA (Double-A) AA (Double-A)
AAA (Triple-A) AAA (Triple-A)

Charter of use for the “e-accessibility website label”

The use of the “e-accessibility website” conformity label on a website implies the website editor’s recognition and adherence to the present Charter, as well as to the e-accessibility label’s GCU.

  • The use of the “e-accessibility website” label on a website implies, first and foremost, the conformity of all the pages of the afore-mentioned website (excluding PDF) with one of three levels of the WCAG 2.0 (Simple-A, Double-A ou Triple-A) and requires the editor to make the website’s level of accessibility sustainable.
  • The use of the “e-accessibility website” label on a website commits the editor to referencing the said website in the certified websites’ gallery designed for this purpose in order to promote the editor’s civic commitment and enable web surfers to assess the said website’s level of accessibility.
  • The “e-accessibility website” label must be used on the website’s home page or help page (also called “Accessibility” page) and must comprise a textual alternative (ALT attribute) such as :
“e-accessibility label: Site accessible to the disabled” (the “e-accessibility label” reference is the minimum requirement). The logo will be coded as a link to the website http://www.e-accessibility.info/en/home/
  • A form or an e-mail must be available on the website in order to enable web surfers to be able to inform the editor about any accessibility errors. As a complement, a channel for complaints is provided on the e-accessibility.info website. If the error is found to be justified in terms of website accessibility standards, the editor undertakes to repair the error as soon as possible.

The e-accessibility association reserves the right to carry out its on accessibility audit on a certified website and, in the case of non-conformity, reserves the right to remove the label (logos registered with the INPI).
